Conceptual understanding
Summer School 2025 was dedicated to investigating dilemmas and perspectives related to conceptual understanding
National and international research has established that only meaningful and conceptual understanding can be transferred and applied in new, complex settings. Rote learning has little, if any, transfer value. Nevertheless, empirical studies also show that it is still possible for engineering students to pass courses without a conceptual understanding of central concepts and terms.
Thus, the question is: How can we as DTU-teachers aim for, scaffold, and enhance DTU-students' conceptual understanding?
Conceptual understanding was the theme of the DTU Summer School 2025, and here you’ll find a collection of podcasts developed during the event, all exploring how to foster deeper learning in STEM education.
