DTU Summer School for Teaching Excellence

DTU Learning Lab invites you to this year’s summer school on conceptual understanding
National and international research has established that only meaningful and conceptual understanding can be transferred and applied in new, complex settings. Rote learning has little, if any, transfer value. Nevertheless, empirical studies also show that it is still possible for engineering students to pass courses without a conceptual understanding of central concepts and terms.
Thus, the question is: How can we as DTU-teachers aim for, scaffold, and enhance DTU-students' conceptual understanding? This is the topic of the year’s summer school.
Why Join?
The DTU Summer School for Teaching Excellence is an immersive three-day deep dive designed for educators who strive for excellence in engineering education.
Through engaging discussions, collaborative knowledge-sharing, and co-creation, we will explore what defines teaching for conceptual understanding and how to translate it into meaningful student learning experiences.
- Excellence in Teaching — Explore what makes great teaching at DTU.
- Deep Conceptual Understanding — Learn how to facilitate learning that lasts.
- Engaging Peer Discussions — Connect with dedicated peers.
During the Summer school we will codesign and produce a podcast on teaching for conceptual understanding, capturing insights for DTU educators.
